Fence Dry! Rules - Fencing Weapons

FENCING WEAPONS

(m 100)  Weapons used in Fence Dry! competitions must conform generally to the specifications for weapons contained in the rules of fencing of the Federation Internationale d'Escrime and USA Fencing.  Weapons must be as supplied by a recognized fencing equipment manufacturer or vendor, subject to normal improvements such as better quality thumb pads, better quality blades, different weights of pommels, or the substitution of a different commercially available grip.  Weapons with home-made components or with blades shortened by cutting and welding are not permitted.

(m 101)  Fencers in Youth 8 and Youth 10 competitions are required to fence with number 0 or number 2 blades.  The tournament organizer may require number 0 blades for Youth 8.  Fencers in Youth 12 through Veteran competitions may use blades from number 0 through number 5.

(m 102)  Any pattern of grip currently available or that has been manufactured for general use since 1960 may be used.  This specifically includes Italian, Spanish, Modern Spanish, Dos Santos, and Gardere grips.  However, the fencer must fence using the grip in the way in which it was intended and for which it was designed, not by manipulating the grip to gain extra reach.  Failure to do so is a Group 1 Offense.

(m 103)  To insure fairness weapons used in dry foil competitions may not be equipped with an electric blade.

(m 104)  Foils and epees must be equipped with either a rubber or plastic button or a training electric point in good condition and with no metal of the point of the blade exposed.  The use of tape to cover the point is prohibited as it prevents inspection of the condition of the button.

(m 105)  The use of point d'arret or tin-tack points is prohibited.
