The Bout

(s 111)  All bouts shall be fenced for a single touch.  The fencer scoring the first touch wins the bout.  Simultaneous or double hits do not count and are discarded, with the fencers being placed in their original relative locations on the piste after taking distance.

(s 112)  All bouts are fenced for 1 minute of fencing time.

(s 113)  If the time limit expires without either fencer scoring a hit, a touch is allocated against each and the bout is scored as a double defeat.

Determination of Placing

(s 121)  The fencer who wins 70% of the bouts fenced will score 1000 points.   Each victory over or under 70% of the bouts will add or deduct a number of points as shown in the table below:

(s 122)  If fencers are tied with equal numbers of points at the completion of the pool, the relative placing of the fencers is determined as follows:

(s 122.a)  If 2 fencers are tied, the winner of the bout between the two fencers is placed higher.

(s 122.b)  If more that 2 fencers are tied, the fencer with the most victories among the tied competitors is placed highest.

(s 122.c)  If there is no outright winner, for example, as a result of a double defeat, the fencers are ranked coequally.

Penalties
