1. DRY TOUCHES - This e-mail newsletter is Fence Dry's regular means of communicating with our members. It will appear as necessary to keep you informed of results, changes to the website, new programs, and other items of interest to dry fencers.

2. AMELIA AND SALLE GREEN NOVEMBER RESULTS - Results from the dry meets conducted by Amelia Steel and Salle Green have been posted on our website. Go to http://www.fencedry.org/FDAmelia1108.htm for results of Rain or Shine - Fence Dry hosted by Amelia Steel on 15 November. And go to http://www.fencedry.org/FDGreen1108.htm for results for Salle Green's Open One Touch Epee meet on 22 November. Some hints on how to read the results:

a. First, these are not the normal bout scoresheets. What they are is a bout by bout record in the order the bouts were fought of how your point ranking moved. The point ranking system is explained in our standard yellow brochure and also on the website. But the bottom line is that at the end of the day, your final point ranking gives you an idea of how you compare with our fencers in our system. It provides those hosting meets an increasingly accurate way of seeding you based on your results against stronger and weaker fencers.

b. Second, everyone starts with 700 points. If you lose against stronger opponents you lose points, but fewer rhan if you lose to weaker opponents. If you defeat a stronger opponent you earn more points than if you defeat a weaker opponent. The more you fence the more accurate the ranking will be.

c. Third, by your name will appear your ranking at the start of a bout, followed by either a number in the V (victory) or D (defeat) column. The last column by your name is the total, which becomes your new ranking for the next bout.

d. Then go to the Current Fencer Ranking page at http://www.fencedry.org/FDrankings.html. By your name you will see a V (victory) column. Your lifetime number of victories in our system determines your classification. The first level, 1, comes at 30 victories total. After that appears your ranking - rankings are by weapon and age group. Then there is a column for competition points - you earn points based on your place in competitions. If there are 9 fencers entered and you place first you earn 9 points, if you place second from last you earn 2 points. These points are part of our annual competition for the entire organization, and you can see how you stand in annual points in the last column.
